Interactive Autism Awareness Experience Unveiled at Yas Mall

The Zayed Authority for People of Determination has taken a bold step in reshaping public perceptions of autism by launching an interactive awareness experience at Yas Mall. This initiative, part of World Autism Month, aims to transform traditional messaging into a dynamic public engagement platform.

Musical Performances Highlight Unique Talents

The initiative featured surprise musical performances by individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, captivating mall visitors and encouraging direct interaction. Performers such as Sara Al Qutb, Zayed Mohammed Al Zaabi, and Ahmed Al Hashemi showcased their unique talents through compositions tailored to their abilities. These performances ranged from serene melodies to vibrant compositions, emphasizing individual creativity and expression.

Digital Engagement Enhances Experience

To further enrich the experience, digital screens displayed awareness messages alongside QR codes, allowing visitors to access short videos that provided insight into the performers’ stories. This creative approach, which captured genuine public reactions and involved influencers, aimed to deliver a more impactful and credible message regarding autism and the capabilities of People of Determination.

Promoting Inclusion and Challenging Misconceptions

The Zayed Authority emphasized that this initiative seeks to challenge misconceptions about autism while promoting the inclusion of People of Determination in public spaces. Aligning with the objectives of the Year of the Family 2026, the initiative underscores the crucial role families play in supporting and empowering individuals with autism.

Collaborative Efforts and Broader Initiatives

Huda Ibrahim Al Khamis, founder of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation and Artistic Director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, highlighted the collaborative nature of the project. The initiative is part of a broader program celebrating World Autism Month, featuring trained participants in musical compositions. The project was implemented in collaboration with key organizations such as the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Aldar Properties.

Commitment to Innovative Awareness Initiatives

The Zayed Authority reaffirmed its dedication to developing innovative awareness initiatives that enhance the quality of life for People of Determination and support their full inclusion in society. This commitment is further evidenced by the recent launch of the “Mawj – Early Intervention Centre” project.

Comprehensive Support Through the Mawj Centre

The “Mawj” Centre represents a significant advancement in integrating healthcare, rehabilitation, and family support services. It provides a comprehensive institutional framework for children aged 0 to 8 years, focusing on early diagnosis, rehabilitation, psychological support, and family counseling. The Centre also implements programs that empower parents and enhance positive parenting skills, alongside specialized training for caregivers and practitioners in early childhood fields.

Strategic Partnerships and Community Impact

The establishment of the “Mawj” Centre involved a strategic partnership with the National Academy for Childhood Development and Royal NMC Istiko Ltd. This collaboration ensures high-quality services and a sustainable impact for children, families, and the wider community. The launch event was attended by key figures such as Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and other officials from the Zayed Authority and its strategic partners.
