UAE and Libya Engage in Talks for Regional Stability
In a significant diplomatic move, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity, during his working visit to the UAE. The leaders focused on deepening bilateral ties and fostering cooperation for mutual interests and the welfare of both nations. Discussions also encompassed various regional issues, including ongoing efforts to establish enduring peace and stability in the Middle East.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The meeting between the UAE and Libyan leaders underscored the importance of solid bilateral relations. Both nations are keen on enhancing cooperation in fields that promise mutual benefits. The discussions aimed at exploring ways to not only fortify existing ties but also to open new avenues for collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, and development.

In a related development, Sheikh Mohamed issued Federal Decree No. (94) of 2026, which restructures the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council. This council, initially established in January 2024, plays a pivotal role in overseeing international humanitarian affairs and reports directly to the Chairman of the Presidential Court.
New Leadership and Members
Under the new decree, Sheikh Theyab Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been appointed as the Chairman of the Council. Other notable members include Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, and Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, among others. These appointments are expected to invigorate the Council’s efforts in addressing global humanitarian challenges.
Flydubai Launches Service to Benghazi
In a move to enhance connectivity, flydubai has launched its inaugural service to Benghazi, marking a significant milestone as the first UAE airline to operate flights to Benghazi Benina International Airport. This service expands flydubai’s African network to 13 destinations across nine countries.
Strategic Significance
The new route reinforces flydubai’s strategic focus on the African market. Hamad Obaidalla, Chief Commercial Officer at flydubai, emphasized the importance of the new service, stating that it offers a new gateway to Africa during the peak travel season. The flights, operating three times a week, are expected to boost tourism and economic ties between the UAE and Libya.
UN Security Council’s Stance on Libya
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has reaffirmed its support for the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and her efforts to advance an inclusive political process. The council urged Libyan stakeholders to engage fully with the political roadmap and avoid unilateral actions that could exacerbate divisions.
Call for Institutional Unity
The Security Council highlighted the necessity of unifying Libya’s institutions, including its military and security entities, to ensure a cohesive approach to national challenges. Emphasis was placed on safeguarding the independence of the judiciary and establishing a unified budget to prevent further economic decline.
