Dubai Hosts Premier of Innovative Cultural Project ‘IRIS’
In a celebration of artistic innovation, Dubai’s vibrant creative sector came together on August 30 for the premiere of ‘IRIS,’ a groundbreaking project by composer and producer D-Bell. Hosted at the prestigious Tomini Classics showroom, the event transcended traditional musical presentations by integrating various artistic disciplines, including live music, visual arts, and classic automobile exhibits.
The Concept Behind ‘IRIS’
Developed over two years, ‘IRIS’ is the brainchild of D-Bell, who collaborated with over 100 musicians and performers worldwide. The project merges orchestral, choral, traditional, ethnic, and contemporary musical elements to create a rich tapestry of sound. This global collaboration eschews the use of Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing human creativity and emotion.
Visual Arts and Cultural Heritage
Maryna Futymska, a Ukrainian-born artist based in Dubai, partnered with D-Bell to craft the visual dimension of ‘IRIS.’ Her work extends beyond mere accompaniment, engaging in a visual dialogue with the music to explore themes of cultural heritage, architecture, and Middle Eastern identity. The exhibition featured 28 artworks, including 18 original watercolour paintings and 10 illustrations, reflecting Futymska’s deep engagement with the region’s cultural landscape.
An Immersive Experience
The venue, Tomini Classics, provided an elegant backdrop, hosting a collection of classic cars that resonated with the themes of craftsmanship and heritage inherent in ‘IRIS.’ The premiere was not just an auditory experience but a multi-sensory exploration, with live performances of three unreleased compositions adding a dynamic layer to the evening.

D-Bell’s choice to center the project around human collaboration over technology speaks to a broader conversation in the arts community about the role of AI in creative production. A significant portion of the exhibition featured portraits of influential UAE figures, such as the Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the current President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. These artworks not only celebrate the nation’s leaders but also highlight Futymska’s profound connection to the UAE, where she has built a significant part of her career.
Notable Guests and Cultural Exchange
The premiere attracted a diverse array of guests, including Dr. Obaid Al Ketbi, former UAE Ambassador to Australia, and Denny Lesmana, Consul General of Indonesia in Dubai. Esteemed members of the UAE cultural and artistic community, such as Khalifa Al Obaidli and Ahmad Shah, were also in attendance, underscoring the event’s cross-disciplinary appeal.
