FOCP’s Unwavering Support for Cancer Patients
The Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting cancer patients and their families across the UAE by providing financial assistance totaling nearly Dhs1.98 million in the first quarter of 2026. This initiative has directly benefited 130 patients, ensuring they have access to essential medical treatments and services without facing financial barriers.
Regional Leadership and Collaboration
Demonstrating its leadership in cancer awareness and prevention, FOCP actively participated in the 11th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week 2026 held in Kuwait. Under the guidance of Sawsan Al Fahoum Jaafar, Chairperson of FOCP and President of the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control, the organization played a pivotal role in fostering regional cooperation. During the event, Aisha Al Mulla, Director of FOCP, delivered a keynote address highlighting the necessity of unified Gulf efforts to improve cancer prevention and patient care strategies. FOCP’s involvement extended to various community-driven initiatives, such as the Sharjah Light Festival and cancer awareness runs, which promoted knowledge exchange and strengthened collaboration with regional stakeholders.
Moral Support Initiatives
Beyond financial aid, FOCP has intensified its Moral Support initiatives to enhance the well-being of patients and their families. In the first quarter, 558 patients participated in three dedicated activations, including hospital visits and cultural celebrations. These activities, which included a special Umrah trip, provided patients with opportunities for spiritual and emotional connection, fostering resilience and community support.
FOCP’s commitment to community engagement is further evidenced by its efforts to reach over 1,000 individuals through various screenings and awareness activities. Volunteers have played a crucial role in these initiatives, contributing to a growing culture of compassion and shared responsibility.
Pink Caravan and Breast Cancer Awareness
FOCP’s flagship initiative, the Pink Caravan, continues to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection. In the first quarter of 2026, the initiative conducted 238 clinical breast examinations and 172 mammogram screenings, reinforcing its role as a vital platform for disseminating health messages that inspire positive behavioral changes.
Ramadan Initiatives and Holistic Care
During Ramadan, FOCP launched the “Family of Giving” campaign, reflecting values of compassion and unity. This campaign directly supported ten patients, including children, by covering critical medical needs like chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants. The initiative also emphasized holistic care by promoting community and family support, aligned with the UAE’s “Year of the Family 2026.”
The campaign included an annual Ramadan Iftar, uniting 300 patients and their families in a nurturing environment. Additional efforts included distributing food boxes and Kiswat Eid gifts, ensuring families experienced the joy of the season with dignity.
Raising Awareness Through Media
FOCP has also expanded its outreach through innovative platforms like the “Refqa Podcast,” which focuses on early detection and the importance of emotional and community support in recovery. These initiatives underscore FOCP’s dedication to fostering a more informed and compassionate society.
Annual Zakat Campaign
FOCP’s annual Zakat campaign, themed “Family of Giving,” mobilizes funds and donations to provide financial and emotional support to cancer patients. This campaign highlights the role of communities and institutions as a second family for patients, aligning with the UAE’s Year of the Family.
Through its comprehensive approach, FOCP continues to be a leading humanitarian organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients and their families, while building a supportive and informed community.
